Sanjay Malhotra Appointed as the 26th RBI Governor

The government of India appoints Sanjay Malhotra as the 26th Governor of the RBI ( Reserve Bank of India). An administrator with over 30 years of experience, He will assume office on Wednesday, 13 December. His tenure will last three years and conclude on December 10, 2027.

Who is Sanjay Malhotra ?

Sanjay Malhotra is an IAS officer from the 1990 batch of the Rajasthan cadre. He has a degree in Computer Science from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur. Further, he pursued a masterโ€™s degree in Public Policy from Princeton University, USA.

In his 33 years career, Malhotra has worked in different sectors, including finance, taxation, power, information technology, and mining. He also contributed in the policy formulation and implementation of direct and indirect taxation. As a policymaker, he has played a vital role in modernizing India’s tax structure and ensuring greater transparency and efficiency in the system.

Before being appointed as the RBI Governor, He was at the position of Revenue Secretary and also worked as Secretary of the Department of Financial Services.

Malhotra to Succeed Shaktikanta Das

Sanjay Malhotra will take over Shaktikanta Das, whose term as the 25th Governor of the RBI ends on Tuesday, December 12, 2024.
