India has made remarkable progress in the Global Innovation Index 2024, moving up to the 39th position out of 133 global economies. This is a big achievement, especially considering that in 2015 India was ranked 81st. The steady rise in India’s innovation ranking shows the countryโs growing strength in the field of innovation.
Last year, India was ranked 40th. Piyush Goyal, Indiaโs Commerce and Industry Minister, announced that India continues to hold the top spot in Central and Southern Asia. It is also ranked first among lower-middle-income economies, proving that India is leading the way for developing countries.
The minister also mentioned that India is ranked 4th in the world for Science and Technology (S&T) Clusters, according to the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO). Four Indian citiesโMumbai, Delhi, Bengaluru, and Chennaiโare listed among the top 100 S&T clusters globally. India is also ranked 7th in the world for intangible asset intensity, which measures things like creativity, patents, and trademarks.
Globally, the top five innovative countries in the GII 2024 are Switzerland, Sweden, the United States, Singapore, and the United Kingdom.
Indiaโs rising position in the Global Innovation Index shows the countryโs growing abilities in research, technology, and digital innovation, pointing toward even bigger achievements in the future.
