DRDO Successfully Tests the 4th Generation Very Short Range Air Defence System

The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) has successfully conducted three flight tests of the 4th Generation Very Short Range Air Defence System (VSHORADS) at the Pokhran Field Firing Ranges in Rajasthan. These tests, conducted over the past two days, mark a significant achievement in Indiaโ€™s defence capabilities.

The system was evaluated against high-speed targets during the tests VSHORADS is a Man Portable Air Defence System, designed and developed indigenously by DRDOโ€™s Research Centre Imarat (RCI), in collaboration with other DRDO laboratories and industry partners. This advanced air defense system can neutralize various aerial threats at close ranges. The system was evaluated against high-speed targets during the tests, demonstrating its effectiveness in intercepting them at both maximum range and altitude.

The trials showcased the weapon’s hit-to-kill precision, with successful engagements in approaching, receding, and crossing modes. VSHORADS is equipped with state-of-the-art technologies, making it a formidable tool for the Indian Armed Forces to defend against aerial threats.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the Armed Forces, and the industry for the achievement, stating that the VSHORADS will significantly enhance Indiaโ€™s defense capabilities and provide a technological edge in countering airborne threats.
