After the resignation of former chief minister Arvind Kejriwal, Atishi Marlena has been appointed as the new Chief Minister of Delhi. The decision was finalized during a meeting held at Arvind Kejriwal’s residence. With this, Atishi becomes the third woman to serve as the Chief Minister of Delhi.
She began her career as a social activist and has made significant contributions, particularly in the field of education. Atishi joined the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) when it was first founded. She was a key member of the team that drafted the party’s manifesto for the 2013 Delhi Assembly election and played a significant role in shaping the party’s early policies. For many years, she served as AAP’s spokesperson before being elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) in the 2020 elections. Atishi won from the Kalkaji constituency, defeating the BJP candidate by more than 11,000 votes.
In 2023, she was given the charge of the education, public works department (PWD), power, culture, and tourism portfolios after the resignation of former ministers Manish Sisodia and Satyendar Jain.
Currently, Atishi holds important portfolios as the Minister for Education, Public Works Department (PWD), Culture, and Tourism in Delhi.
Atishi’s strong background in social work and governance positions her to make a positive impact as Chief Minister. Her leadership is expected to focus on advancing education and improving infrastructure, continuing her work for the betterment of the city.
Delhi is now set to move forward under Atishi’s guidance, with hopes of seeing meaningful development across key sectors.
